![]() Name: Sgt. John Munch Age: 55 Occupation: Detective Marital Status: Married Eye Color: Brown Hair Color: Gray Place Of Birth: New York Family: Bernard (brother), Andrew (uncle), Lee (cousin), Cassidy (daughter) Spouses: Divorced 4 times, currently married to Soledad Munch ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ John Munch was born on the lower east side of New York City. Early on his life was shaped by two traumatic events: his father's suicide when he was eight and the death of his neighbor. He partly blames himself for both their deaths and feels that he could have done something to prevent them. Later on Munch and his family relocated to Pikesville, Maryland were he attended Pikesville High School. He excelled in his studies despite being out-casted by his peers for his religion and his views on the world. He tried his hand at basketball but his coach said he looked like a "retarded gazelle with a spastic disorder". He was able to avoid being drafted in the Vietnam War and went on to college after which he joined the Baltimore Police department. Munch made Homicide detective at the age of 31. During his years in Homicide he had many partners including, Stanley Bolander. Munch respected him and considered him one of his closest freinds-despite Bolander often telling him he wasn't his real partner. After Boleander's suspension and eventual retirement he partnered with Megan Russert, Kay Howard, and Tim Bayliss. Bayliss also co-owned The Waterfront, the bar across from the station, with Munch and Meldrick Lewis, but once Munch moved back to New York he sold his share in the business to Detective Paul Falsone. Munch has been married numerous times. He still holds a candle for his first wife Gwen years after their divorce. While working a case with detectives from New York he drinks himself into a stupor and professes his love for her after learning about her breif relationship with Detective Lenny Briscoe. After Gwen, Munch married Maria, Nancy, and one of the waitresses employed at The Waterfront, Billie Lou. Soon after their marrige Munch retired from Homicide. He soon grew tired of retirement and life with Billie Lou. The two divorced and Munch moved back to his childhood home of New York were he joined the NYPD and the Special Victims Unit. His revolving door stream of partners continued with Brian Cassidy, Monique Jeffries, and finally Odafin Tutuola. In Baltimore Munch made a bet with Kay to see who could get a better score on the Sergeants exam. He crams the night before but the day of the test a "comedy of errors" prevents him from being able to take it. Flash forward to 2007, Munch finally takes the exam on a bar bet and passes. After the fall out from the Darius Parker case Munch is briefly made commanding officer of SVU. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Munch is an avid conspiracy theorist and often expresses his views to anyone who will listen. He is deeply suspicious of government in spite of his chosen profession and a big proponent for individual civil liberties. Munch is against drug prohibition and has admitted to using drugs in the past. He is also deeply compassionate and good with female victims and children, a trait that is probably due to what he endured in his childhood. Munch has always been unlucky in love and at times he is almost lecherous in his appreciation of women. In earlier years when he fell for a woman he would fall hard, often romanticizing them to almost perfect beings. Bolander once told him that lust is usually the cause of his downfall. Despite his eagerness to find love, he often sabotages his own relationships. In one instance he sleeps with his date's roommate while waiting hor her to come home. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Munch from Homicide: Life On the Street the Munch from and Law and Order: SVU are in some ways very different characters (I mostly blame this on the SVU writers who obviously haven't been doing their research) so I try to blend both personalities when I write Munch. He is written as close to canon as possible with one notable difference, in late 2000 Munch met a CSU tech named Soledad "Sunny" Truscott. Initially he was hesitant to begin a relationship so soon after his last divorce but eventually the two began dating. In 2003 they moved in together and in December 2004 they married. Soledad has a daughter, Cassidy, by a man she dated in college. Munch adopts Cassidy soon after the wedding. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ John Munch does not belong to me, he is the property of Dick Wolf. This journal is solely for fic writing and general fangirling purposes. I do not intend to profit from my writings, infringe on any copyrights, or piss off any people who could very well crush me. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ To contact the Muse or the Mun, comment on this post or instant message me. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Muse: Sgt John Munch Fandom: Homicide: Life On the Streets and Law and Order: SVU Member of: |
